About me

Are you struggling in your relationship with constant worry, or feel stuck thinking about painful things that happened in your past? Perhaps you or your partner find yourself engaging in compulsive behaviors, like drinking, gambling, or overeating as a way to escape from the pain that you feel inside?

I'm Doug Foresta, and I have over 15 years of experience helping couples who are stuck in fear, worry and sadness break free and live the life they want and deserve. I combine my years of experience as a therapist with over 20 years as a playwright and writing instructor to help clients "re=story" their lives. I love working with creative people, and I believe that everyone has a creative power inside them that can help them overcome any obstacle. My clients seem to appreciate a non-judgemental and creative approach to therapy. (I don't have a "cookie-cutter" method of working with clients!)

I know how hard it can be to take that first step and reach out for help. I welcome the opportunity to meet with you and see if we are a good fit, and wish you all the best along your journey of change!

Doug listens compassionately and uses humor in a way that put us at ease immediately. During our sessions he asks useful questions; he’s great at taking a messy personal problem or situation and making it feel more simple or approachable. Doug offers a wealth of very practical knowledge about what people and couples need, which he doles out in manageable bites over time, and in response to our individual needs. Conversations with him have given us a useful set of concepts and vocabulary to work with as we navigate life and our marriage together outside of therapy.

I have gained so much understanding from working with our counselor. It has helped me view so many things in my life and my responses differently as well as catching underlying themes that unify what I perceived were separate issues. He is also very good in helping me find analogies that help me articulate my thought processes to others. I haven’t had much success working with counselors in the past, but my experience with him has made me realize how much benefit I can gain from working with a counselor that is a good fit for me.

Doug has been awesome to work with so far. We have known him for about 5 or 6 weeks and our relationship has been steadily improving. He is a perfect fit to our personalities and knows when to be serious when talking to us but can also help us joke around, laugh, and keep things light. We really look forward to talking with him and enjoy seeing him each week!
