About me

I am a Licensed Professional Counselor in the State of Virginia. I have been practicing in the mental health field since 2002 since I obtained my master’s degree from the University of Dayton. I enjoy listening and helping. I believe in the power of “talk therapy.” I once read a quote that says, “What a curious power words have.” This quote suggests that “talk therapy” works and I believe that wholeheartedly.

I understand that “Hurt People, Hurt People,” so let’s begin the healing process. When you are hurting you might intentionally or unintentionally hurt people, and relationships with people are vital. I can assist you with gaining insight about your actions, by processing your thoughts and feelings. All human beings at one time or another have reacted based on our thoughts and feelings, and the results have not been favorable. Let’s talk about how your thoughts, feelings, and actions are connected. By using a Cognitive Behavioral approach to therapy, I can help you become aware of inaccurate or negative thinking, which I often refer to as Thinking Errors. By doing this you will be able to view difficult situations in a different way and therefore respond and react more effectively.

I have a passion for Marriage and Family Therapies, as well as, Couple’s Therapy and Premarital Counseling. Our thoughts, feelings, and behaviors inevitably affect our relationships. Individuals in families and marriages often operate from a place of comfort and familiarity, which can be detrimental. Allow me to help your marriage and family become what you desire. Couple’s Therapy is unique, and I can help you navigate the difficulties that tend to be specific to couples. Many times, individuals come to therapy in a reactive manner, but I approach Premarital Counseling in a proactive manner. Let’s create the foundation for a healthy marriage.

Marriage can be a frightening word, especially, if you believe the statistics about marriage. Please believe that you and your spouse can create a loving and forever marriage. I admire and appreciate the commitment it takes to build and maintain a strong and healthy marriage. Finances, communication, roles, in laws, and growing your family are only a few areas that can create discomfort within a couple. Therefore, it is important to discuss these topics and more prior to marriage. Please contact me to schedule premarital sessions, so that you have an upper hand entering marriage and lay the foundation for the marriage you dream about.

Marriage is hard, marriage takes work, and marriage is not always a fairy tale. I know you have probably heard those statements and if you have not already you most likely will. All those statements can be true at one time or another during your marriage but let me help you both learn the skills that will ensure that your marriage grows stronger during those times. Struggles within marriage are inevitable, but these struggles can strengthen your bond. Need help with overcoming these struggles, please contact me, I can help.

Darsha has been absolutely dynamite. My husband and I had a lot of challenges to process and Darsha was very down to earth, an insightful listener, asked clear questions and throughout it all made sure we all kept our sense of humor. We worked with Darsha for 3 months and our marriage is much, much stronger now because of it. We highly recommend her!
