About Me

Welcome to BetterHelp! My name is Daniel Villarreal. I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and have 33 years of counseling experience working with Divorce, separation, GAL's, Parent Coordinators, Divorce Court systems and with the Police . Life and relationships can be confusing and mixed; each can be a source of both pain and healing. Given this, my goal as a therapist is to collaborate with you in navigating this confusing world. This might include self-exploration and identity, adjusting to life transitions, overcoming relationship difficulties, navigating depression and/or anxiety, and moving forward post-trauma.

I have diverse clinical experience, including couples from various socioeconomic, racial, ethnic, religious, educational, gender, and spiritual backgrounds. I approach each couple uniquely and my main goal is to create a safe non-judgmental space in which you are welcome as you are.

I practice primarily from attachment and psycho-dynamic theories, while utilizing key interventions from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Interpersonal Psychotherapy (IPT) with a focus on mindfulness to manage symptoms. I am a level II trained Restoration Therapist, which I utilize in couples work to help identify underlying patterns of interaction that lead to familiar fights and difficulty resolving arguments.

I work heavily with Addictions, Relationship issues, Family conflicts, Trauma and abuse, Intimacy-related issues, Parenting issues, Anger management, Self esteem, Coping with life changes and ADHD.

Daniel has been great to work with thus far. He doesn't take sides and lets each person feel heard. He has been helpful understanding some of the issues that arise when partners are from different cultures/countries.

Daniel is very helpful and understanding. We were looking for someone who could help us communicate better and more respectfully. He is polite and really cares. I have had a not so good experience with another counselor on this site, she was very unhelpful, focused on telling me what I was doing wrong, often sided with my GF, picked out all of my issues. Daniel is impartial and is able to help both of us understand how we affect each other and really help us "regain" our relationship.

My partner and I have really liked working with Daniel. He was extremely sensitive to our problem yet direct. He saw both sides and was able to get us to see each other’s side. He was very, very punctual and got back to us in a timely manner when we needed it the most. Thank you, Daniel Villarreal!!
