About me

I am a Licensed mental health counselor in Washington state. My mission is to provide a safe environment in which you can grow, come to know yourself more deeply, and find ways to relieve your suffering. My counseling style is both educational and therapeutic; warm and interactive yet can also be blunt and to the point when needed. I believe that each person is fundamentally healthy and good, and that by finding out more about yourself, you can find healthy ways to get your needs met and live your life more fully. I treat my clients with respect and compassion while using motivation and a little gentle pushing when necessary I have worked with clients with a very wide range of concerns including but not limited to anxiety, depression, trauma, ADHD and relationship issues to name a few. I enjoy helping individuals find tools or stepping stones that can be utilized to get themselves over or through the rough waters of life.

My work is client-centered, which means I work with what the individual brings to the session, without a predetermined idea of how it will go. I also take a strengths-based approach, meaning that I do not pathologize my clients; instead, I try to emphasize their own inherent health. Often times this involves working through layers of thoughts and feelings to get down to what really matters. I believe that our symptoms are ways that the marginalized parts of ourselves are attempting to communicate with us. By listening to these messages, we can find a path to health and wholeness. There are times that it is appropriate for client and therapist to utilize a more structured approach and I frequently pull from many different theories in my approach to counseling. I use cognitive-behavioral, reality therapy, DBT, Motivational Interviewing and many others as needed and desired by the client.

I received my Bachelor of Science in Sociology from Montana State University in 2005. I then obtained a Master of Social Work from Walla Walla University in 2011. I received a Graduate Certificate in Addictions Counseling from Montana State University in 2014. I have had experience working with children, adults and dual diagnosis clients. I have education and experience in providing individual and family therapy. An area of specialized study in graduate school was family violence, trauma and chemical dependency. I also received a minor in Native American Studies and have experience working with clients who identify with the Native American culture. I have been working in this field within an office setting and a home setting since 2011. I have worked in a child behavioral health organization, an adult mental health organization and then an organization that focused on the reunification of families after Department of Children and Family Services was involved. I moved into private practice in 2018 to offer myself more freedom. I continue to participate in trainings and seminars to enhance my skills and further my growth as a counselor.

The only difference between stumbling blocks and stepping stones is the way in which they are used. Counseling should give you what you need to turn those stumbling blocks into stepping stones.
