About me

Hello! My name is Chavon and I am a licensed professional counselor in the state of Texas. I have over 5 years experience working in the mental health field. I have worked in a variety of settings including schools, partial care, outpatient, in-home, and individual sessions. Although that seems like a mouthful, it simply means that I have had experience working with a broad range and severity of clinical issues. I have the most experience working with depression, anxiety, family/relationship conflicts, grief, and self esteem/love. I also have experience working with intellectual/developmental disabilities, behavioral issues and autism .

My dedication to the field of mental health stems from my personal experience with it. I have had the personal experience of suffering the pain of infidelity within a marriage and later a divorce. When this happened a counselor helped me put the pieces of my life back together. I found purpose in this experience and after I was able to heal, I was able to gain an insight to healing and forgiveness. I knew that helping others through this painful process was a way I could give back.
I have also personally overcome some mental health challenges, too. I know firsthand that getting help can be a challenge. There is still so much stigma around having mental health issues, the process for getting help can be overwhelming, and it can feel so frustrating and lonely. However, I also know from experience how much life can change for the better when you find support and take steps towards taking care of yourself!

I use a person-centered, self compassionate, multicultural, and integrative approach in treatment. This means I begin where you are and tailor the treatment approach to your needs while being sensitive to how your individual cultural identities and lifestyle choices impact your experience. I primarily use evidence based techniques including cognitive-behavioral therapy, mindfulness, motivational interviewing, and solution-focused counseling. However, I do incorporate more "classical" approaches to counseling as well.

I would describe my style as warm and supportive, and I am ready to help you tackle your struggle head-on. Collaboration is important - together we can work on establishing concrete goals and steps for you to help overcome your current problems. If you are looking for quick fixes, I am not the best counselor to work with. I believe in taking time and working on wellness slowly, holistically, and consistently. Just as physical health takes time and consistency, so does mental health. I look forward to helping you in any way I can!

My wife and I spent several months in therapy with Chavon and really found our time with her to be incredibly helpful. Chavon was great at listening to both of us and was able to quickly and succinctly provide suggestions for how we could improve our relationship. We both found Chavon's advice to be thoughtfully considered and actionable, which made each of our sessions feel valuable and worth our time. We highly recommend Chavon for couples therapy.

Chavon is super relatable, she does a great job at making us comfortable during our sessions and helping us both feel heard.

We are only a few weeks in with Chavon, but already I can tell she’s just the sort of ally we need to help us get things back on track in our family. She doesn’t hesitate to say difficult things to us that we need to hear. I look forward to working with her more & learning how to better handle things in our home during this chaotic time in the world.

I have spent a lot of time with many therapists since childhood. Some were fantastic and very very helpful, but none have seemed to care and go as above and beyond as Chavon has with us!! I may not always like what she has to say, but I completely feel like she genuinely cares about us, separately and together as a couple. That she truly has our best interests in mind. Finds time in her schedule to help us at the drop of a hat. I would recommend her to a highest degree!!
