Dr. Carol Fletcher

About Me

During the past 21 years I have learned that the client is the best source of his or her personal story and knowledge of him/herself and their family. Our experiences in all spheres of life affect us whether they are positive or negative. It is that story which forms the basis of a counselor's knowledge of and interaction with the client. My approach to counseling is client centered and empathic. I attempt to put myself into the shoes of the client but know that it is never truly possible to experience their reality entirely. I can never be them but I can be someone who tries to understand what it is like to be my client. That is why I need them to tell me their story as openly as possible. Knowing that issues which require counseling usually carry the stigma not seen with medical problems, receiving and treating a client without making assumptions is something I view as essential to the relationship.

Most of my 21 years of providing therapy I have worked in and with agencies engaged in guarding the health and welfare issues related to children of all ages utilizing play therapy among other cognitive behavioral therapy methods consistent with the age(s) of the child. Children are great teachers who are capable of bringing forth what is bothering them through many activities. The forms of therapy which I utilize with adults are adaptable to and useful with children. In addition, I specialized in child and family care during my Master Degree in Counseling education at Chestnut Hill College and during my MSW education at SUNY University of Buffalo.

Since becoming a Licensed Social Worker I have been licensed and continue to hold clinical level licensure in the states of South and North Carolina, Virginia and Pennsylvania. I am also a certified addictions counselor in South Carolina. I specialize in trauma and related issues, veteran's issues, and family/relationship issues. I am certified by SUNY University of Buffalo in trauma treatment. My practice utilizes cognitive behavioral therapy and EMDR. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy exists in many forms and I am trained in many. Among those I utilize regularly are EMDR, Mindfulness/Dialectical Behavioral Health, ACT, Narrative Therapy, and Short Term Solution focused therapy. I interweave psychodynamic approaches with cognitive behavioral methods utilizing best practices psychodynamic materials. As my client you will be my guide who teaches me the information needed to help you heal.

I look forward to meeting new, old and existing clients at each session. Your focus is my concern and we base our plans and goals on your needs as shared with me.

I look forward to meeting with you should you choose my skills.
