About me
My education includes my Bachelor of Arts Degree in English from Campbell University in North Carolina. I completed my graduate studies in Social Work at University of North Carolina in Wilmington.
I have practiced behavioral therapy for eight years following my 2012 graduation from University of North Carolina in Wilmington. The populations I have served during that time have varied greatly. I have worked with children under 10 whose behaviors disrupted the success they could accomplish at home, school, and other environments that they were in. I also helped children ages 12-19 who were needing behavioral health services to identify their needs and how they could go about having their needs met that also allowed them to meet the societal needs placed on them. Societal needs being: appropriate school performance, eliminating or reducing involvement in the juvenile justice system, and improving interactions with those within the child's home. For years, I worked with adults with dual diagnoses of mental health and developmental disability. I am currently working with the military population where I do individual and couples therapy.
My treatment approaches include learning what brings my clients joy, what they enjoy doing, who is important to them, and goals they have. I then dig deep into these elements to identify value system, core values, and how clients view themselves. From there, I ask in what way can I assist them to get to the destination they want to get to. The destination can be a mental, emotional, or physical. Also, the destination can be interpersonal. The therapeutic models that I use to aid me in helping my clients are: narrative therapy, dialectical behavior therapy, solution focused therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, and motivational interviewing. I have experience with clients that have symptoms of anxiety, trauma, depression, PTSD, low self-esteem, poor self image, self-critical, impulsivity related to anger, difficulty adjusting, grief, and loss.
