Brittany Avnieli, MS, LMFT, is a licensed marriage and family therapist in California with 8 years in the mental health field. Mrs. Avnieli has a masters degree and a bachelors degree in psychology from California Lutheran University and California State University Channel Islands. Mrs. Avnieli has dedicated her life to the field of mental health, gaining knowledge and experience with several different populations. During the process of completing her Bachelors degree, she spent 2 years working with families with children with Autism as a respite care provider. Following her time as a care provider, Mrs. Avnieli began her involvement with the substance abuse and addiction population, working as both a technician and primary therapist. She is currently working in the addiction field as a primary therapist with dual diagnosis individuals and helping with issues such as anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder, stress management, coping skills, relationship issues and family conflict.
Relationships are about reciprocity: it takes each person involved to make and manage problems. When it comes to understanding relationships, it is important to recognize and acknowledge that each person involved has a unique personality, perception, set of values and history. Different value and belief systems that have been influenced through experience and norms of society shape a person's nature, creating thoughts, feelings and behaviors that may be clashing between partners at times . Most relationships will get strained at some point, resulting in the presentation of maladaptive patterns that can create further disconnect between the individuals during a time where connection is needed most. There are many possible reasons for this, including insecure attachment, ego, arrogance, jealousy, anger, greed, poor communication/understanding or problem solving, ill health, third parties and so on. Changes in situations can have a profound influence on the conduct, responses and actions of the individuals in a relationship.
Mrs. Avnieli's specialties are in treating depression, anxiety, trauma, relationship/ communication skills, parenting skills and addiction issues. Mrs. Avnieli's treatment approach is set on the foundation of having a solid therapeutic relationship, integrating several theories such as cognitive behavioral therapy, solution focused, narrative therapy, mindfulness, attachment theory and client-centered.
While many therapists remain passive, she takes pride in taking an active role throughout the therapeutic process, joining in and collaborating with her clients, rather than being a quiet participant. Mrs. Avnieli believes that direct feedback is an essential component in helping facilitate change in a safe environment, while still honoring and respecting your boundaries.
