I am a Licensed Professional Counselor with a Master's in Counseling and a Bachelor's degree in Psychology from the University of Alabama. I am also a Certified Rehabilitation Counselor helping clients with physical, mental, developmental, and emotional disabilities learn to live independently. My experience spans over 16 years working with children, adolescents, adults, and families of every race and ethnicity. My goal in counseling is to create a non-judgmental, compassionate, and motivating environment. I use clinically tested and evidence-based interventions and often use humor to help individuals find the positives amid life's challenges. I believe what makes me unique is my background as the daughter of a military father and my career as a flight attendant. As such, I was able to both live in and visit many foreign and domestic locations that provided me the chance to learn about and interact with people from many different cultures.
As a Licensed Professional Counselor, I have worked with couples for over thirteen years. It is important to teach couples how to communicate in a healthy manner by learning how to make your message clear so your partner understands what you need and using I statements like "I need" and " I feel." My approach is non-judgmental toward either partner and I want them to know that I don't "take sides." In addition, it is the couple who needs to do the work and I do believe in homework for my couples. My ultimate goal in couples counseling is for them to be able to learn how to change unhealthy patterns that have brought them to counseling in the first place.
