Alisha Edmiston

About Me

I am a licensed clinical social worker in the State of New Mexico with 5 years of experience working with individuals and families. My areas of specialty are depression, stress and anxiety, trauma, and parenting issues. I have also worked with clients who have experienced: family or relationship issues, low motivation, low self-esteem, low confidence, addictions, grief and loss, and anger.

My counseling style is client-centered utilizing evidenced-based interventions. I am a certified Multi-Systemic Therapist (MST), and I am trained in Trauma-Focused Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR). I utilize a systems perspective to conceptualize a client's needs, creating a complete picture of how to address a client's presenting concerns. I incorporate a trauma-informed and strengths-based approach with shame-resilience principles to build and strengthen one's self-efficacy. I value the importance of a judgment free atmosphere and building a strong therapeutic alliance in order to help my clients reach their goals. I practice active listening and enjoy assisting others in deepening their own self-awareness. I will structure my sessions to meet your specific needs.

On a personal note, I am a former professional cyclist, triathlete, and ultra runner. I am a Crossfit Level 1 trainer, and I do Crossfit as well as Olympic weight lifting. I am a new mom to little Ella, and I am enjoying the adjustment to motherhood. After so many years of working with families in my social work practice, it is rewarding to become a parent myself.

I understand seeking help for relationship struggles is difficult and recognize the courage it takes to reach out. Change is not always easy, but I am here to help you every step of the way. Are you ready to walk through life's challenges and feel empowered to live a more fulfilling life? If so, then contact me and let's get to work!

She is very understanding and straight forward. I like that after a few short exchanges she was able to quickly and accurately make goals for us in our time with her. I feel like in our talks she really understands what it is we are trying to accomplish and I feel confident in this process with her! Highly recommend!
