April Brewer

Professional Experience

Dr. April Brewer is a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC).  She gained direct research, writing, and editorial experience while conducting dissertation research at Arizona State University, providing direct clinical care to a population diagnosed with either Diabetes Mellitus Type 1 or Type 2 and comorbid alcohol use in a medical setting.

Prior to becoming an online editorial reviewer, Dr. Brewer gained diverse professional experience as a U.S. Air Force Medic (Active Duty) OEF/OIF, Psychometrician (U.S. Navy Civilian), DUI & Drug Court Counselor, Behavioral Health Treatment Court Coordinator/Mental Health Clinician (Superior & State Courts), Military & Family Life Counselor (School Age-based, U.S. Army Contractor).  In addition, she also worked as an Addiction Therapist, Health Science Specialist/Crisis Responder, & Social Science Program Coordinator (Veterans Affairs Medical Center).

Currently, she provides direct clinical care through her private clinical practice providing individual, couples, & family therapy, psycho-education, and consultation services for individuals and groups of all ages.  She provides mental health services to clients via the BetterHelp virtual platform.  In addition, she stays abreast with the latest medical, mental, & behavioral health, & Telemental Health research by participating in annual Continuing Education Units (CEU) which are required to maintain her clinical Licensure in Professional Counseling (LPC) and community wellness events.

Educational background

Dr. April Brewer earned a Doctor of Behavioral Health (DBH)at Arizona State University, focusing on Integrated Behavioral Healthcare to develop, manage, and implement behavioral health programs in medical, occupational, and school settings to aid in the prevention, management, and improvement of comorbid chronic medical & mental conditions.   In addition, she earned an M.S. in Clinical Counseling, M.S. Human Services, & a B.S. Human & Social Services Administration from Bellevue University.

I believe in reducing the stigma associated with seeking out mental health services.  Taking an eclectic approach to assisting each unique individual or population, will assist with the reduction of barriers to mental health services, allowing to meet the unique needs to help improve the persons’ overall health and wellness.
